Every aspect of this ministry has been initiated by the prompting of the Holy Spirit and the under girding of prayer. As Nita says,
“I have never sought any of this. God has opened the doors and we have
merely walked through them. I simply hang on to His coattails, waiting to
see where He will take us next.”
The love of Christ is the motivation which underlies all that is done as Nita and her staff step out in faith. God has been faithful to guide us to new areas of ministry and partnerships with other organizations.
Long-term relationships are the goal in every part of this ministry. Phone calls are made to all families who have received mobility aids. Families are also encouraged to call the office even if they just need to hear a voice on the other end of the phone. Follow-up visits are made by Nita and her staff where the goal is be there for the families -- to encourage them and pray for them.
Bible Studies
The Bible is taught at two of the orphanages (Veloska and The Boys’ House), at the annual camp for disabled children, the Young Camper’s Group; and a summer Vacation Bible School is offered at several institutions (see “Mission Opportunities”).
Bible studies are also taught to the office staff and to other groups who are interested. Many of the staff members have come out of Nita’s Bible study groups.
Mentoring and Leadership Development
One of the more touching facets of the ministry is that Nita is teaching Ukrainian citizens to help themselves and then to help others. For example:
• A woman who belongs to one of Nita’s Bible studies has now opened a home orphanage for 10 children.
• The two men who manage the Wheelchair Repair Center are in wheelchairs that GHT provided. Now instead of sitting in their flat staring at four walls, they are actively involved in helping others.

• Three of the staff at the Center are young men whom we took out of the Boys’ House Orphanage for the mentally handicapped. These young men work hard each day and have learned many skills.
• Two men who teach computer skills at the Cerebral Palsy Center are in wheelchairs we provided.

• Three of the staff members are now teaching the Bible at the orphanages. Another one leads the teaching at the Young Camper’s Group.

All employees are Ukrainian citizens and the hope is to one day turn the ministry over to the Ukrainians.
Volunteer Program
In December 2007 the Volunteer Program was inaugurated with 10 volunteers from four churches. They will make home visits to help the handicapped with cooking, cleaning, shopping, running errands or just providing a listening ear. They were trained by Nita and her staff to be able to serve the disabled in a way appropriate to their unique needs. This is a milestone since the churches in Ukraine rarely work together in this way.
8 new volunteers for a total of 18 train from our local churches trained and sent out to minister to our disabled community.
Many of our disabled families are calling the office and asking, "where is our volunteer?" We pray that this program will grow more and more as Nita goes out to speak in the local churches.
