In June 2003, Nita began a new program to assist individual children with varying disabilities through financial support, prayer and personal communication. Each sponsored child has a story—a story of courage, hardship, pain, and hope. Some of the children are diabetic, and this program means the difference between being able to regularly monitor their blood sugar and getting the correct dose of insulin or guessing at the amount of insulin which has terrible consequences. For others it means the families have the ability to purchase the necessary food and medicine to keep their children strong and healthy.
Many of our sponsoring families have young children of their own who participate in the program by praying for their Ukrainian friend. What better way of teaching compassion and understanding to your child! Currently there are more than 30 families in the program, but there are many other children with compelling stories who are still waiting for sponsors. These children now believe they have a future and a hope for the first time in their lives.

Sponsoring a child does make a difference. It makes a difference in the quality of life for a child in Ukraine, and it makes a difference to the sponsoring family because they feel that they have a connection to a new family member on the other side of the world!
