Refugee Building Project

Rebuilding lives and restoring hope for those displaced and have endured unimaginable loss

Internally Displaced Persons, (IDP’s), are people who have been forced to flee their homes but remain within their own country’s borders. According to the most recent reports in mid-to-late 2025, approximately 3.7 million people are internally displaced within Ukraine (these figures are from International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNHGR). Social agencies in Bila Tserkva Region estimate there are thousands of IDP’s in our area. For many of these people, their homes have been destroyed and they have lost everything except for what they could carry when they left, Most will never be able to return home.

Nita has felt God leading her to provide homes for some of the internal refugees in the Bila Tserkva Region.  According to the offices for social services, no one else in that area is addressing this need. Property has been purchased in the village of Forsee near Nita’s Ukraine home, plans have been drawn for 18 townhomes and a contractor, who was referred to Nita by a trusted Ukrainian friend, has been hired.

The homes will have high ceilings and closets to maximize the space.  Instead of closets we are familiar with in the US, homes in Ukraine often use wardrobes that take up floor space.  The units will also have a small yard for a garden, a tradition for Ukrainians.

Ground has been broken and work is beginning on the first 4 units which should be completed by the Spring of 2026.

When completed new homes in Ukraine do not include toilet, showers, kitchen cabinets, etc.  All of these features are referred to as “furniture.” Please refer to the list of items to be bought for the homes. Individuals or groups who donate an amount for a home will have their name on a plaque on the home. GHT will make sure the homes are move in ready. An experienced GHT employee, Serghei, is supervising the contractor and the project.

Due to the overwhelming number of people in need there will be a lottery to determine who will receive the homes.  Those considered must meet one of the following criteria:

Refugees who are:

       1.  Elderly and unable to work to provide income

       2.  Parents with children with disabilities

The GHT staff is enthusiastic and excited about this project and the opportunity to bring hope into the lives of those who have lost so much during this difficult time of war and despair.
